Dark Lips

If somebody has natural dark lips there is no remedy for it, because our lips contain the same pigment that our skin contains, called melanin, so the color of the lips may differ just like our skin on any other part of our body. What makes our lips have a beautiful pink color? The blood in the blood vessels and if the color of our lips is darker the blood will become less noticeable and fortunately there is nothing to worry about.




But if you noticed a quick darkening of your lips and the color will not return to its original one you should probably turn to a doctor, because you might have some health issues.  It is a common problem faced by the people consuming excessive amounts of coffee or tea, but smoking is the prime cause of it. If the habit of smoking will not stop, the nicotine in the cigarettes will stain the lips and the problem will become only more serious as time passes, becoming darker and darker.

In case that you quit smoking in time there still are some remedies that will help lighten the color of the lips and help them regain their beautiful pinkish color, but the more serious the problem becomes the hared it is to find a remedy for it. Excessive exposure to sun can also darken them by tanning them and thus darkening them. Unhealthy eating can also cause the same effect to our lips, it is recommended to consume more fruits and vegetables which will help the organism regain its former health.



Using improper cosmetics, that do not posses a proper quality, or applying “industrial” quantities could cause negative effects also. When choosing a cosmetic product we should always take in consideration the brands, they might cost a little extra but our health should be our priority. Before applying the products on our lips we should also try them on a different part of our skin just to see if we have an allergic reaction to it or if it is safe to use.  We hear that sometimes less is more, well this applies also to the amount of lipstick that we use, by applying to much the skin will not be able to breathe as it usually does and the visual effect will be more pleasant too, more natural.

It is advised to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and if we do not take in consideration this fact our body will not be able to wash out the toxins that were accumulated in our organism as it would if we would drink a proper amount of liquids. It will also keep our body more hydrated and healthy. Certain food or bacterial allergies can also cause the darkening of the skin of our lips, if we encounter this problem we should turn to a dermatologist who will be able inform us to find a remedy for the problem.

But we should also try to avoid certain habits like licking our lips or sucking them, because it can lead to the chapping and drying of our lips and in some cases they will also gain a dark color. So I think that everybody should try to take care of their lips and try to forget about the harmful habits that they were used to, because the darkening of our lips sometimes will show us that we are not as healthy as we thought we were and tries to make us aware of the problem that is in the inside.
